Alicia Gutierrez Mendez, 87, of Othello, Washington, went home to be with our Lord on December 9, 2024. She and her late husband, Jose, were married 65 years. She enjoyed daily worship, singing gospel music, crafting, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
Alicia was born in Pearsall, Texas to Balthazar and Olivia Gutierrez. Alicia accepted Jesus as her savior 70 years ago and was a devoted Christian wife and mother. She worked for many years as a laborer and helped with the family farming business. Later in life, Alicia started several independent businesses in Avon and Home Interior retail sales.
Alicia is survived by her two sons and three daughters-in-law, Tina Mendez of Othello, Joe and Letty Mendez of Olympia; and Gilbert and Angie Mendez of Pasco. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Veronica (Americo), Jennifer; Joseph, Marcus; Mark (Becky), Bo (MiKayla), MiKayla, Nick and nine great grandchildren: Connor, Hailee; Daniel, Sonny Jr., Morin; Kaleena; Noami, Niamia, and Felix.
In addition, Alicia is survived by two brothers and one sister, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with many nephews and nieces residing in Washington, Texas, California, and Colorado. She is preceded in death by her son, Daniel Mendez, her sister Adelina Mendez, her granddaughter Jessica Mendez, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel Assembly of God, 915 S. 1st Avenue, Othello, WA on December 19th, consisting of a viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and a service held at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00pm, to be officiated by Pastor Hilario Garza Sr. The burial will be held at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens. Stevens Funeral Chapel will be handling the funeral arrangements.
