Mendez, 69, of Othello, WA, passed away on October 21, 2024, with his wife and family by his side. Daniel was born on September 18, 1955 to Jose and Alicia Mendez in Pearsall, TX. After Daniel graduated from Othello High School, he went on to study Auto Mechanics at Yakima Valley Community College. During this time, he met his soul mate, Ernestina and they married in 1976 and have been together for 48 amazing years. They had three beautiful daughters, Veronica, Jennifer, and Jessica. Daniel wore many hats in our community. He worked as an auto mechanic at Othello Texaco and Dewey’s Auto shop for over 40 years before moving to the Othello School District working in the bus garage as a bus mechanic and sometimes a bus driver. What Daniel loved the most was coaching his daughters. Daniel started by assembling a girls’ softball teams for his daughters, teaching them the game and taking them to tournaments. Even after his daughters graduated and moved from Othello, he continued to coach softball for many years. He umpired for both softball and baseball in the Moses Lake, Othello, Royal City, and Warden area. He also coached pee wee football and summer baseball. Daniel spent most of his time enjoying life with his wife and family. Daniel grew up playing music, especially in the church. He loved to take motorcycle rides. He loved to watch his grandsons play sports and claimed he was their number one fan. Daniel was predeceased by Jose Mendez, his father and Jessica Mendez, his daughter. He is survived by his wife Ernestina and his dog CoCo, his daughter Veronica and Americo with his grandsons, Daniel, Sonny Jr. and Morin, his daughter Jennifer and his grandcat Mr. Jackie Chan, his Goddaughter Estella and Kyle and family, his mother Alicia Mendez, his brothers Joe and Letty Mendez and family, and Gilbert and Angie Mendez and family. He is also survived by In- laws, nephews, nieces, and friends who loved and supported him.
