Obituary written by family
Ramiro “Rodney” DeLeon was received into heaven July 29, 2024 at 1:05pm. He was surrounded by his children and loving family when the gates of heaven opened after 15 courageous years battling Alzheimer’s; he was 80 years old.
Ramiro, son of Sylvestre DeLeon and Ernestina Garza DeLeon was born July 21,1944 in Bishop, Texas. He was the oldest in the family with 8 siblings.
Ramiro migrated to Othello, Washington in 1962 with his parents and made Othello his forever home. He lived his life for his parents, children and serving his precious community.
Coming from humble beginnings, Ramiro accomplished and succeeded at anything that was told to be impossible. He was always ready to take a risk. He was a father, a truck driver, an entrepreneur, a first responder, an electrician, mechanic, construction builder, an amazing dancer, and the definition of a dreamer.
Othello and his children were the focus of his life. Once arriving to Othello, Ramiro truly began living life on his own terms. He was adventurous, determined and his drive to “be a somebody” took him many places. Aside from his entrepreneurial accomplishments, Ramiro proudly served the Lord alongside his mother who was a founding participant of Bethel Spanish Assembly of God by building his house which is now a blessed and prosperous church where many lives have been saved. He was a guitar player for the worship team when Bethel first started at the Old Othello Museum.
Ramiro had the heart of a lion. He was the pioneer of the rising of hispanic entrepreneurship in Othello. Ramiro was a manager at Chef Ready foods and worked closely with Pete Taggares. Shortly after, he bought his first truck and started DeLeon Trucking who was a key contributor to the success of Harvest Fresh and local farmers.
He was the owner of East Main Street having acquired and operated the following businesses; The Tasty Freeze/Happy Taco (now known as Casa Mexicana), Arco/Conoco (now known as The Main Stop), Laundromat/Pizzeria (now known as Taqueria Guerrero), Othello Bowl, El Caporal, The Cimarron, Muffler Shop (now known as the Cow Path Bakery), Rodneys Buggy Bath (now known as Pro Touch Car Wash), Galaxy Gas and Games (now known as Norco), Mobile Tune Up (mechanic shop on 1st & Main) several properties where The Dollar Tree, KixStand, and D’s Touchless Carwash now stand and many more.
For the past ten years, Ramiro had been in the loving care of his daughter and son-in-law, Tania and Michael Morelos. It was his tireless strong will and desires to have better things in life that was instilled in his children to have a mindset of success, to work hard, and never give up.
Ramiro is survived by his siblings, Sylvestre DeLeon Jr., Victor DeLeon, Rosa Gonzalez, Irma Aguilar, Tina DeLeon, his children Evelyn Krier, Randy DeLeon, Kevin DeLeon, step daughter Cheryl Sherman, Tania (Michael) Morelos, Thalia (Jose) Lemus. His grandchildren Matthew Krier, Tyler Krier, Randy DeLeon Jr., Sarah DeLeon, Nicholas DeLeon, Steven DeLeon, Breanna DeLeon, Ellis Morelos, Mary Morelos, Victoria Morelos, Leon Morelos, Jeremiah Lemus, Aaron Lemus and 3 great grandchildren.
