Angela Lyn (Purcell) Lawson was born on January 24, 1978, in Salmon, Idaho, the fifth of seven children in her family. She made her entrance as her parents, Steve and Camille, were teaching a marriage and family class, and mom informed dad that they needed to quickly get to the hospital! Angie was a very active child, participating in dance and gymnastics through the first grade while her family lived in Salmon.
The family moved to Lyman, Wyoming when Angie entered 2 nd Grade, and throughout her middle school years she played volleyball and basketball. She took pride in her and her brother Chris being the ballgirl and ballboy for her sister Stephanie’s volleyball team. She was quite the social butterfly in Lyman, spending time with friends, and working at Rent-a-Flick, a small pizza and video place. Angie was a very talented pianist, and after taking just a few lessons at age 12, was mostly self taught. This musical talent has been a huge blessing of peace in many places, most importantly in her own home.
Going into her Senior year of high school, the family moved to Othello, Washington, where she graduated from Othello High School in 1996. Shortly after high school she moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where she worked for Frontier Pies, a popular restaurant in Rexburg.
In November of 1997, after moving back to Othello from Rexburg, Angie took employment at Time Out Pizza in Othello. Her boss at the time set her up on a blind date where she met a man named Tim Lawson. For Angie it was love at first sight, and it only took her two days to tell Tim that they would one day be married. It took Tim a little longer to have the same feelings, but after just six weeks into their courtship, they were engaged, and five months later were sealed for time and all eternity in the Seattle, Washington LDS Temple on June 16, 1998. They both knew they wanted a large family, and throughout their marriage they had eight children, Taver (May 1999), Corbin (August 2000), Bridger (October 2001), Emma (February 2003), Spencer (August 2005), Joshua (October 2007), Tyson (May 2010), and Sophie (March 2012). Tim and Angie often joked that it was so fun having three boys and a girl, they did it twice!
Angie adored her eight wonderful children. She was a proud stay-at-home mom, and was always willing to allow Tim the time to do whatever was necessary to provide for the family, often having to tell him goodbye to work two or three jobs to make ends meet. Because of her sacrifice of time with Tim, they were able to take their family on yearly trips to either the ocean, or the mountains. Angie loved Wallowa Lake, Oregon, Ensign Ranch, spending time in Westport, Wa, and most of the Oregon Coast. When her health began to limit her ability to travel with the family, she was still very involved in planning amazing trips, and would spend hours questioning the kids about their experiences, and looking at their pictures and videos. Angie also loved family reunions, and despite her severe anxiety, did her best to be at them. She loved both her Purcell family, and her Lawson family with a deep and abiding love.
After many health challenges throughout her adult life, Angie was first diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 2016. She fought like a warrior, and went into remission about a year later. Cancer changed Angie in many ways, and even though she was no longer battling cancer, her mental health took a huge decline, and she struggled to find joy in life until she was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer in July of 2022. During the toughest moments of her life, she found peace in her skills with working with wood, and for several years made beautiful Nativity sets that she sold to help supplement the funds used to provide Christmas gifts for her children. She fought hard, but ultimately was in hospice care in September of 2023. During the nine months she was in hospice care prior to her passing, she lived a whole lifetime. Along with rekindling many family relationships, including many visits to see her sister Stephanie and Dad in Pasco, as well as time with Tim’s family, she was able to witness Emma and Carson get married, her grandson Rome being born to Bridger and Misa, many sporting activities involving Josh and Spencer, sending Taver on a two year church mission, spending lots of time with Sophie and Tyson at home, several visits from Corbin, and ultimately celebrating her 26th wedding anniversary with Tim just a day before she passed away.
Angie passed away peacefully at home on June 17 th , 2024, surrounded by some of her loving family members. She is survived by her husband, Tim Lawson (Othello, Wa), daughters Emma (Carson) Freeman and Sophie Lawson (both of Othello, Wa), sons Taver (Ohio, Cincinnati LDS Mission), Corbin Lawson (Boise, Id), Bridger (Misa) Lawson(Moses Lake, Wa), Spencer, Joshua, and Tyson Lawson (all of Othello), her father Steven Purcell (Pasco, Wa), sisters Stephanie Purcell (Pasco, Wa), Melissa (Dustin)Sloan (Garden Valley, Id), brothers Trent (Becky) Purcell (Soap Lake, Wa), David(Debbie) Purcell (Idaho Falls, Id), and Chris (Jenny) Purcell (Lexington, Ky), grandson Rome Lawson (Moses Lake, Wa), in-laws Gary and Yvonne Lawson (Moses Lake, Wa),and many, many other family members too numerous to list. She was preceded in death by her mother, Camille Purcell, and her brother Tracy Purcell, who passed away as an infant, as well as both sets of her grandparents on the Purcell and Harline sides of the family.
Angie’s smile, musical talents, love for everyone she ever met, love for the temple and her Savior, Jesus Christ, will live on in the lives of her family forever!
