Obituary of Dorothy Klingeman

DOB 06/13/1935 DOD 02/08/2024 Written and provided by the family Beloved mother and long-time Othello resident, Dorothy Louise (Magoteaux) Klingeman peacefully passed away on February 8, 2024, at Coventry House Assisted Living at the age of 88. Dorothy was born on June 13, 1935, in Butler County, PA, to Earl Raymond “Ray” Logan and Grace Lenore (Brown) Logan. She lived in Meridian, PA, and had many fond memories with her parents, brother Jim, Uncle Chappy & Aunt Lillian. When Dorothy was 13, her dad accepted a management position with Potlatch Lumber Company and moved to Ritzville, WA. Dorothy graduated from Ritzville High School in 1953 then attended Washington State College (WSU) for 2 years studying business. After college, she accepted a position at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, WA working for the bomber's legal office where she met Reginald Allard. They were married in 1956 through 1970 and had six children. In 1973, Dorothy married John Magoteaux with 4 children. With 10 children, the house was always active with family and friends and was the center for gatherings. Dinners were a large affair that always included an extra mouth or two. During their marriage, Dorothy and John enjoyed traveling to Florida, Canada, Pennsylvania, and Alaska. They would spend many days along the Columbia River and Potholes Reservior digging for Indian artifacts and in the hills above Ellensburg hunting for Ellensburg blues. Aside from their adventures, Dorothy and John owned and operated Magoteaux’s Men’s Shop until 1984 when John experienced serious health issues. He eventually recovered, then Dorothy and John retired and enjoyed time with their children and grandchildren. John’s illness returned and Dorothy cared for him until he died in 1993. After John’s death, Dorothy busied herself with sewing and gardening and enjoyed trips to Pennsylvania, Alaska and Oregon. She especially enjoyed her rose, peony, and hosta gardens. In 1998, she married Carl Klingeman and resided in her home on Rainier Street. They operated Carl’s accounting business until he retired in 2015. They enjoyed visiting with friends and family, hosting the annual 4th of July picnic, and traveling to Texas, Prince Edward Island and Canada. In 2015, they moved to Parkview Estates Senior Living in Kennewick, WA. Carl died in March 2019 and Dorothy moved to Coventry House Assisted Living in Othello, WA. She spent her days enjoying her family, visiting with other residents and staff, watching the birds at her feeders, and watching the Hallmark Channel. Dorothy loved family and looked forward to visits from everyone, especially the grandkids, who held a special place in her heart. Dorothy was a long-time member of Othello First Presbyterian Church, who for many years played the piano for Sunday services, weddings and funerals and was a Sessions and Evangelism Elder. She was known for her giving spirit, strong faith, and relationship with Jesus Christ. Dorothy is survived by her brother Jim (Betty) Logan, her six children, Steve (Pam) Allard, Mark (Susan) Allard, Cheryl Latschaw (Skip), James (Esther) Allard, Susan (Dan) Huntzinger, and Scott (Saundra) Allard: nine stepchildren Sharon Hampton, John Magoteaux Jr., Jim Magoteaux, Carl Klingeman Jr, Peggy Ann Berk, Sylvia Erickson, Becky Branson, Kathy Klingeman, and Paul Klingeman along with 3 nephews, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, and 37 step-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Coventry House Staff and Assured Hospice Staff for their excellent care of Dorothy. A public viewing and funeral services will be held on February 24, 2024, at the Othello First Presbyterian Church, Othello, WA. The viewing will be from 9:30 am-10:30 am, with a service from 11:00 am -12:00 pm. A reception luncheon will follow at the church after the service. A private family burial will take place at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers or other, donations can be made to the Othello First Presbyterian Church Deacons Fund, 715 E.
