Obituary of Lois Juanita Coffelt

Lois Juanita Coffelt September 23, 1928 – September 8, 2019

Lois Juanita Coffelt, 90, peacefully joined her Cowboy in Heaven on September 8, 2019.

She was born in Stillwater, OK on September 23, 1928 to parents James and Eleanor (Akers) Suthard.

Lois graduated from Muskogee High School and it didn’t take long before she ventured to Los Angeles and started her career with TWA airlines. She worked as a teletype operator and enjoyed the benefits of the airlines by traveling whenever she could…and had beautiful memories of travels with her Mom & Dad and friends.

On the eve of a "date gone bad" she met one handsome Sailor Boy who literally swept her off her feet. These two didn’t mess around…and in a matter of a few weeks were engaged…this Sailor wanted to make sure she would be there when he returned.

On April 2, 1953 Lois Juanita Suthard and Hugh Byron Coffelt, Jr. tied the knot and it remained happily tied for 63 and a half years.

They moved to Modesto, CA and started their family. The love of the Pacific Northwest was tugging on Hugh and although Lois wasn’t 100% on board (and cried most of the way) they loaded up the 3 kids and headed to God’s Country, Othello, WA…they finally found "Home".

Lois was a Deputy Sheriff (Dispatcher) for the Adam’s County Sheriff’s Department. She was known for her calmness and professionalism when the calls came in and for her perfection in reviewing reports before the deputies and officers turned them in…keeping them out of trouble with the boss. Her kind heart and caring nature made her a perfect fit and she gave 20+ years of her life serving her community.

A loving servant of God and woman of faith, Lois was an active member and secretary of the Pine Street Baptist Church. Lois and Hugh were pillars of the church, and they loved and cherished their church family. Cindy, Suzy, and Byron were so blessed to be loved and raised in this family of faith.

A special THANK YOU to all of Lois and Hugh’s friends in this wonderful community…they treasured each and everyone of you. Lois lived at Coventry for 2+ years and a special THANK YOU to all who lovingly cared for her patiently and sweetly.

Lois is back in her Cowboy’s arms…Hugh said "Honey, come on home"…she is survived by her children, Cynthia Gay (Jerry) Coffelt Edwards of Austin, Texas, Suzanne (Barry) Coffelt Klettke of Vancouver, WA and Hugh Byron (Denise) Coffelt III of Pasco, WA. Lois also leaves behind her sister Sharon Warsop and brother-in-law Duane Cook, sister-in-laws Joanne Moon Chandon & Juanita Coffelt, her five grandchildren: Tori, Blake, Kelsey, Grant and Claire and her precious great granddaughter Piper Jane…and many nieces and nephews… all cherish her loving memory. She is preceded in death by her husband Hugh, parents James & Eleanor Suthard, her sisters Dorothy, Mary, & Connie, her brothers Bob & Rex and her grandson, Lucas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Stevens Funeral Home in Othello on Saturday, October 12th at 10am, followed by a potluck get-together at the former Pine Street Baptist Church at 1130 E.
