Obituary of Kathleen Sue Hayner Blaak Laursen
Kathleen Sue Hayner Blaak Laursen was born on July 9, 1948, in Portland, Oregon. She attended elementary and middle schools in Richland, Washington, and graduated from Grandview High School in 1966. After graduating from high school she attended and graduated from Northwestern School of Commerce in Portland, Oregon.
In 1967 Kathy married William Blaak in Grandview, Washington. They were married 23 years and had two children (Todd-1971) and (Kim-1974). During these years Kathy worked for Boeing in Auburn, Washington, Soil & Crop in Othello and Sargent Pump & Irrigation which is now known as Irrigation Specialists for 27 years. While her own children were small she also babysat for other people so she could be at home with her children until they were in school.
In 1996 Kathy married Jack Laursen. Together they welcomed Kathy’s greatest joys – her grandchildren, Vanessa, Jordan, Dylan and Dakota. She was their biggest fan and always encouraged them to be the best they could be.
Kathy loved playing softball and played in a women’s league into her forties. She was also active in bowling. She was a HUGE Mariner and Seahawk fan. She would turn into a different person when watching “her boys”.
After an illness in 2013, Kathy retired and kept a positive attitude trying to get back to the active life she had always led.
Kathy was preceded in death by her sister Vicki, her mother and father (Charles and Shirley Hayner), step-son Jack Laursen II, all grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Kathy is survived by her husband Jack Laursen, Doug Hayner (brother), David Hayner (Brother), Todd and Whitney Blaak (son), Kim and Jason Nelson (daughter) and Tammy Laursen (step-daughter).
