Obituary of Juan Zavala Jr.
Juan Zavala Jr, 91, of Othello Washington, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington. Juan was born in Aunice, Texas, August 2, 1924 to Juan Zavala Sr. and Carlota Ortegon. As a young man Juan had a passion for baseball and loved playing the game. His favorite position was playing pitcher; with a mean left handed curve ball, there was little question why his brothers chose him to play on the team. At the age of 17 Juan lost his left eye while chopping wood on the farm in Texas.
Juan married the love of his life Olivia Ontiveros on January 6, 1951. Together they had 8 beautiful daughters. Juan was a home grower, he enjoyed gardening and growing his Chili peppers and vegetables. He especially enjoyed making his homemade salsa for his family and friends. He would often joke around with his grandkids, that they couldn’t take a bite without shedding a tear, but soon after they got accustomed to grandpa’s salsa.
Juan lived a long and prosperous life and had many that loved him and will cherish the memories of his generosity. Mostly he will be remembered for the laughter he brought out of everyone.
He Survived by his children; Maria, Lucy, Ester, Sylvia, Lilia (Hugo), Alice and Nuemi.
He is preceded in death by; his wife Olivia, his daughter Dora, his nephew Jaime and his parents.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 22, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, at Stevens Funeral Chapel. The Funeral will be held Friday, October 23, at 11:00 am, at Stevens Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens, in Othello, Washington.
