Obituary of Richard Anthony Boothman

Richard Anthony (Tant) Boothman passed away at his home on March 5, 2015. His wife Linda and children were present as he peacefully fell asleep in the Lord. He is survived by two sons William Anthony (Tant) Boothman Jr. and David Scott Boothman, daughter Debra Lynn Boothman-Crisp, Son-in-law Gary Lee Crisp and Daughter-in-law Darla Boothman, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tant was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and a son, Jeffrey Robert Boothman. Tant was born to Edward Albert Boothman and Margaret Nancy (Hitchon) Boothman on September 25, 1929. The youngest of eight children, he grew up on the family cattle ranch near Loomis, Washington. After he graduated from high school the family purchased a cattle ranch in the Grande Ronde Valley near the town of La Grande, Oregon. Tant also owned another ranch in the area, located near the base of beautiful Mt. Emily where he raised his family until 1969 at which time Tant and Linda sold the property and moved to Grand Forks, British Columbia. He worked as a mechanic while searching for a cattle ranch in the area. Approximately a year later Tant took over the management of a pure-bred Charolais cattle ranch near Surrey, British Columbia. Tant and Linda finally settled on a property in 1974 near from Othello, Washington. Tant stayed true to his calling raising cattle and hay until his retirement in 1991. The couple retained the home they built with a small acreage, and were living there at the time of his death. Tant had great passion for the land and cattle ranching. He spent his life as a true steward of the land, teaching his children, “If you take care of the land, it will take care of you for generations.” A very special man Tant loved his wife and family with that same depth of emotion. He didn’t have a lot of hobbies, but he enjoyed fishing whenever time allowed. In his later years he and Linda spent hours tending a beautiful garden producing exceptional vegetables and fruits for his family to enjoy. One of many projects he took pride in was the highly efficient irrigation system he designed and built. A strong patriarch, Tant was a sincere and selfless influence in the lives of those he loved. His sense of humor made us laugh and his serious nature taught us to listen and trust his judgment. He lived a modest, but exceptionally productive life. For anyone who really knew Tant Boothman, his passing will leave a void in their hearts. A memorial service for this beloved husband, father and grandfather will be held by his family at a later date.
